Gilbert Arenas, bringing high fashion to the hardcourt

by Micah Hart

Let me say at the outset that I totally misunderstood this story at first. When I first read that Gilbert Arenas had worn a pair of Dolce & Gabbana shoes in the Wizards’ game against the Lakers on Tuesday, I foolishly assumed he had worked some deal to have them custom-make a pair for him. Of course, you know what they say – when you assume about Gilbert Arenas, you must be a real idiot. Or something like that.

I was quite mistaken. As it turns out, the kicks Agent 9 was rocking were high-fashion shoes (retail value $395) made more for a night on the town rather than 48 minutes on the hardcourt, despite their look. This from Kicks on Court (by way of DC Sports Bog):

Arenas’ luxury Dolce & Gabbana High Top sneakers feature a two straps across the midfoot area and contains a patent leather-like texture makeup.

Arenas, who was dropped by Adidas as a spokesperson after last season’s shenanigans, has been wearing a variety of shoewear this season, including retro Jordans, Under Armour, and fluffy bunny slippers*.

*may not be true – yet

Incredulity aside, the choice of footwear didn’t appear to affect Arenas adversely, as he scored 23 points on 8-17 shooting in the Wizards 115-108 loss to the champs.

I guess it must not be the shoes, eh Mars?
