Ron Artest – baller, rapper … comedian?

by Micah Hart

Ron Artest has worn a number of hats in his NBA career — basketball player, hip-hop impresario, scapegoat for everything wrong with basketball, and fundraiser for mental health issues. Apparently, Artest plans to add to that list this summer, as he announced on Friday via Twitter:

“Ron Artest: The Ultimate Comedy Tour” has two stops planned as of now, a two-night booking at Caroline’s in NYC followed by two more nights at the Brea Improv outside of L.A.

There is no information at this time about which comedians will be performing, or more importantly, if Artest himself will be taking the stage to try out some jokes  (“Why are they called technical fouls? Aren’t all fouls technically fouls?”).

Ron-Ron has never had problems evoking laughter from those around him, though I’m not sure it’s always been intentional. It will be interesting to see what happens if he decides to give it a shot – you would think with his life experience he’d certainly not lack for material.

If he does perform, there is one advantage I could see him having over most other comedians – good or bad, it’s hard to imagine him getting too much heckling.
