Shaq Announces Plans To Build Louisiana Children’s Hospital

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most fun people around the NBA to spend any time around, mainly because with Shaq, the impossible quickly become a reality. Watching an awards show so you just get up and dance? Sure.

Visit the police force, show off your skills on a shooting range and leave behind a humorous message? Totally Shaq.

And it isn’t all fun and games. While Shaq was in Louisiana last week to be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, he announced his intention to build a children’s hospital in Baton Rouge. According to the Tiger Rag

“I wasn’t supposed to announce this, but I’m going to do it anyway,” Dr. O’Neal said. “I had a talk with the powers that be in Baton Rouge, and my plan is to build a Shaquille O’Neal children’s hospital. That’s my plan, so that right now is in the works, and hopefully it gets done. ”

Dr. O’Neal said the idea has been discussed for two years, and his goal is to join with Our Lady of the Lake “to build the biggest, freest hospital in the state of Louisiana.”

“All sick children can come for free,” he said. “That’s my vision.”

    Please Shaq,
Do it. For a nation that prides itself as the largest industrialized nation on earth, it is embarrasing to note that its citizens have no free healthcare. Do it for the kids.

What amazes me about a lot of NBA players is that they’re so dedicated to giving back to the community. Yeah they make millions of dollars but most of them don’t let it get to their heads, they stay grounded, are appreciative and do so much charity work etc.
I’ve followed the NBA for 20 years and have seen so many examples of this. The league play a huge part in it too because they have created and spread this ‘NBA Cares’ culture. It’s very admirable.
I live in Ireland where lots of people follow the English Premiership. I don’t follow the Premiership (soccer) but those guys get paid huge money, same as the NBA players, they play a lot less games during the season so they’ve more time on their hands and yet they don’t seem to do anything on the same scale of charity work that the NBA do.
I hope Shaq can pull this off and it works well.
