ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — With the season and his return to the court right around the corner, Chicago Bulls G Derrick Rose has spent the last few weeks traveling around Europe with adidas. I pieced together this sketch of his trip via adidas press releases:
Rose started at the adidas World Headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany. He toured headquarters, met with execs, and played employees in basketball and ping-pong competitions. From there Derrick traveled to Milan, Italy, where he surprised players at a local court and met fans at a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
From there he visited Zagreb, Croatia, where adidas held a press conference at the Drazen Petrović Memorial Center. There Rose received a special jersey from the late NBA player’s mother, Biserka Petrović, and toured the museum. Later, Derrick met fans who won a special contest through Facebook, and then dedicated the newly refurbished Tuškanac “D Rose” basketball court with Croatian-born former NBA player Gordan Giriček and Croatian women’s national basketball team Olympic silver medalist Antonija Mišura.
After that it was off to Paris, where he visited Playground Champs de Mars near the Eiffel Tower, and selected the final participant in a one-on-one tournament held at D Rose Place. Also, adidas held a special party at D Rose Place that night where attendees included hip-hop artist Big Sean, Nic Batum of the Portland Trail Blazers, and several other French athletes and celebrities.
Next, to Spain! Rose visited Madrid, where he coached a basketball skills clinic with over 300 kids at Campus Gigantes del Basket. Following the clinic, Rose surprised fans by visiting the adidas Store at El Corte Ingles where he spoke with fans and signed autographs.
