The Greatest Buzzer Beater Ever?

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — We like to commemorate game-winning buzzer beaters around here with something we call the Horry Scale. But there are plenty of other shots that beat buzzers and still don’t qualify, at least in terms of being a game-winner.

Which is how we categorize this shot from Spain’s ACB league, from a game over the weekend between Real Madrid and La Bruixa d’Or. With 0.4 seconds remaining in the half, Madrid big man Marcus Slaughter threw a three-quarter court pass to Felipe Reyes. Even though Reyes was sprinting away from the basket, he managed to get a shot up and beat the buzzer. And what a shot it was…

Ah how lovely euroleuge seems. A place were players don’t seem to care about their shooting percentages enough to throw in a shot like that one. I don’t know if this is a thing happening more often today than before, but it seems no player dares to take quarter ending shots because they fear their shooting percentages will suffer if they miss. 😦

Larry Legend over Kersey and Clyde in the corner 1985…2 seconds, double team, fake, fall-away and puts it away at the buzzer. Re-dam-diculous.

Not the best I’ve seen but incredible all the same.

Look at the score. For a buzzer beater to be great, it has to matter. 51 to 28. WHO CARES?

The best buzzer beater ever. It was the final, a serbian team against a croatian team, the celebration, and so on. Just watch it and there will be no discussion.

@Daniel Kvick, this is not a Euroleague match, it’s a match from the Spanish league..

Without a doubt Partizan Belgrade’s Kecman buzzer beater with 0,6 seconds to go, in the ABA league final, from his own half, losing 74:72, and giving his team the win and the ring, is and will be the greatest buzzer beater in history.

It’s hardly the best buzzer-beater if you’re way ahead of your rival and still got lucky. The shot was just thrown without any calculation and simply went in, that’s all. To be the best buzzer-beater, there’s a need to factor in the circumstances as well. The shot should be game-changing at least, like Ray Allen’s 3-pointer in Game 6 of last year’s Finals when the Spurs could have taken it all. It tied the game, sent it to overtime, and led to Miami winning that game and 7. Jeff Green’s three on pretty much the same spot, which ended up with an unthinkable result, also qualifies for one of the best of all time.
