ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Part of the rite of passage of playing high school basketball is spending months on months in underfunded locker rooms. Cement floors, cold wooden benches, unwashed towels, mismatched uniforms — this is all generally part of the high school hoops experience.
But during his All-Star break in New Orleans, Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade teamed up with Gatorade to make a difference for a Louisiana high school. During the second half of a game at Riverdale High School, a team of workers pulled an extreme makeover to Riverdale’s locker room.
The reaction from the players upon returning is terrific, as is their excitement when Wade unexpectedly strolls into the room. I also love how upon seeing Wade, most of the players are too shocked to do anything, except for one kid who beelines directly for a handshake. Great stuff all around…
