Today’s TBT topic: Dirk Nowitzki

Dirk Nowitzki passed Boston Celtics legend and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee John Havlicek for 12th on the all-time scoring list last night after he scored 31 points against the Utah Jazz.

Nowitzki now has 26,426 points in his career and trails Moses Malone by only 983 points for seventh on the all-time list, which would move him past Dominique Wilkins, Oscar Robertson, Hakeem Olajuwon and Elvin Hayes.

This Throwback Thursday, we look back at the incredible career of Dirk Nowitzki:

Dirk has been one of the greatest players to have ever played. Will be a very sad day when he hangs up that jersey.

Favorite moment would be the 2010-2011 season. I remember how he resigned with the mavericks. No one really talked about dirk since lebron and bosh signed to the heat to make the “big 3″ anyways dallas was the underdog team that whole season. Everyone said they couldn’t do it but hey kept proving the doubters wrong. When is was time for the finals in playoffs, Dirk, the only superstar, took down lebron, dwade and bosh and won a championship. That has to be my favorite dirk moment, carrying a team that wasn’t packed with superstars but a team that knew how to work together to a championship.

How about a throwback from Sunday to Saturday to our king “LeBron”. More interesting right?

  4. Sam Reye says:

Dirk can get as far as he wants, such an unique element, Hero

  5. Mo says:

It’s him being a 7-footer and mostly an outside shooter, which should enable him to play some more years at a high level. if he stays healthy enough, that guy should be the next sure candidate for the 30.000 point club.

  6. StompEmInTheNutz says:

Why hasn’t Brian Scalabrine get this much coverage?

It will be a long long time before we can see another Player like him or maybe not,
I hope he can still play 6 more years,

  10. Henry says:

Being from Germany I very much enjoyed watching him compete for international trophies with the German squad. I dread the day he retires from the NBA, as the entire league will likely lose some of its appeal for me personally. It was special to see Dirk live a while back here in Berlin when he and the Mavs played the local Alba Berlin. Awesome Dirk has recovered from his knee injury. Go Mavs!

  11. Dave O says:

I knew Dirk Diggler was gonna be a big star! And Nash looks like….”Backstreets back….. Alright!!”

  12. JM says:

Best moment would probably the 2011 NBA title for Dirk. He played w/ the best teammates he’s had in his career. So sad to see their title defense weakened by not signing the key players….

  13. GEDZ says:

2011 Championship. Dirk is amazing in the playoff and finals.. for me it is the greatest story of underdog in history but Dirk prove doubters wrongs, portland, lakers, okc and miami all fall to the hands of a great basketball hero dirk nowitzki. when he retires maybe it took a long long time to produce anothers unique and sharp shooter 7 footer like dirk. great man, great player hes the best.

  14. LOL says:

I’m glad no one styles their hair like that anymore. The 90’s were a time of innovation and darkness…

  15. edrik says:
