ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Let’s all stop for a moment today to wish the happiest of birthday wishes to Popeye Jones. Today Mr. Jones turns 44 years young, so it seems like as good a time as any to get into the internet wayback machine. While today Jones is an assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers — as well as the father of top NHL prospect Seth Jones — Popeye had a long career in the NBA, logging almost a dozen years with five different teams.
But he played his longest stretch in Dallas, from 1993-96 and then again in the 2002-03 season. (He also spent a few years in Dallas after retiring as a player development coach.) But what I didn’t know is that while he played for the Mavs, Jones teamed up with then-teammate Tony Dumas to record these movie reviews. The people at Ballislife have uncovered a couple of these classic videos.
