Throwback Thursday: The Dream Team

VIDEO: Relive some great All-Access moments with the Dream Team

Welcome to Throwback Thursday here on the All Ball Blog. Each week, we’ll delve into the NBA’s photo archives and uncover a topic and some great images from way back when. Hit us up here if you have suggestions for a future TBT on All Ball.

Today’s Topic: The 1992 Dream Team

Back in 1992, the U.S. Men’s Olympic National Team was no longer comprised of the best college players around. In that year, the best NBA players were allowed to represent the U.S. and America changed the way basketball was perceived worldwide with a squad led by Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone and others.

On July 5, 1992, The Dream Team won the final game of the Basketball Tournament of the Americas against Venezuela 127-80. Team USA won all six games by an average of 51.5 points en route to a performance in the ’92 Olympics that wowed crowds and led to a gold medal.

To celebrate, this Throwback Thursday we look back at the players who made up the 1992 Dream Team.

Probably the thing to remember is the ease at which they won their games-that is when they played and did not coast. It seemed that they knew that winning was never in doubt and to some degree that took the fun out of the games. Almost like men vs boys and the fun was not in the game due to the lack of competition.

  2. tartifola says:

    Where is Isiah Thomas?

  3. Efrain says:

I remember the fun in their faces. It was like if they where on vacations. Stress out and enjoy the get together. You can build another team with the rest of the best of all time and I’m pretty sure they still win by the same margin.

  4. Antonio Perez says:

Michael Jordan told Chuck Daly if you take Isiah Thomas i’m not going that’s why they pick stockton , Chuck Daly was Detroit Piston coach and he knew there was problems between Jordan and Thomas , another story is that the only white player was Larry Bird and they needed more white players that’s why they pick Christian Laettner and not Shaq , imagine isiah Thomas and Shaquille O’neal in the 92 original and only true dream team

  5. markderani says:

When chuck daly made them lose to the college kids. Great lesson!

  6. JGC says:

Didn’t mention John Stockton at all.

  7. DG3 says:

This was indeed the Dream Team

  8. OKC says:

The Dream team is a lie. Isiah should have been there over Stockton for sure. Too bad that everyone hated his Pistons. Though often overlooked Isiah Thomas is easily one of the best players of all time. At least my generation has fallen in love with him through the Bad Boys documentary lol.

  9. the dude says:

@Antonio Don’t forget about Chris Mullin!

  10. Chuckster says:

Charles Barkley was so skinny then!!!!!
