LeBron gives sweet apology to his Ohio neighbors

By Jeff Case

In the days before LeBron James eventually made his decision to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, many, many, MANY, cars and on-lookers lined the street in Bath Township, Ohio. That’s where James has a residence off Idlebrook Drive in a high-end community and all of that foot traffic — from fans others awaiting some kind of sign at James’ home about his free-agent choice — no doubt bothered at least some of James’ neighbors.

Like any good neighbor, though, James did what he could to right that wrong by having an upscale bakery in Ohio deliver cupcakes to the other homeowners. The Akron Beacon Journal has more:

Employees from Baker Blvd. Decadent Desserts in Fairlawn dropped off cupcakes Tuesday night to James’ Bath Township neighbors. Included with the dozen cupcakes was an apology note from James for the “chaos” that surrounded his return to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

When James announced his decision to return to the Cavs earlier this month, fans and the media crowded his Idlebrook Drive home.

“We know things have been hectic in the neighborhood these past few weeks and we are sorry for the chaos,” the note reads. “We are so thankful to live in this wonderful community and we are so blessed to have understanding neighbors like you.

“As a gesture of our gratitude and appreciation, our family wants to give you something that is meaningful to us, our foundation’s cupcakes. We hope you enjoy the treat!”

The note was addressed from James, his wife and two children.

James’ neighbors received six “Just a Kid from Akron Cherry Cola” cupcakes and six “Homecourt Chocolate Chunk” cupcakes. Both cupcakes were designed for James.

And here’s a tweet from David Galehouse, who home is just miles from James’ home, writes ESPN.com’s Darren Rovell.

Our “king LeBron is not just a good player but a good citizen too! Our neighboorhood will be happy next year once you bring our 1st ring in Cleveland and 3rd for our “king” LeBron! Kobe you still have chance to play with us for your 6th ring!

    • WOW says:

Kobe doesnt need to move from the varsity conference to the JV to win a ring dont worry fan boy lol

      • Jim Muncy says:

JV league? Who won the All Star game? I agree, the west is better but JV league? Come on.

    • wade says:

LMAO..this cr8z lbj fan determines to make the same comment about lbj regardless of what lbj does.

Way to go Lebron! You’re a good neighbor.

I live in Birmngham Alabama and a “BIG” Shout-out to my neighborhood(Chichester Dr.) for all the Chaos I caused them when You decided to go back to Cleveland! WELCOME HOME! #CAVSFAN4LIFE

  3. ChickenPocks says:

But all of a sudden so many cav fans now wonder why

  4. K From The H says:

Like a good neigbor LeBron is there! New State Farm spokesperson maybe?

  5. Heat4Ever says:

It looks like LeBron had some good mentoring in Miami. He grew-up as a person, as a player, and as a businessman. Cleveland doesn’t deserve LBJ, especially after the infamous letter Mr. Gilbert wrote and how the so called fans burned his jersey and demonized him after he left. Enjoy while it last Ohio. I reckon the King will be leaving soon. The Cavs don’t have a winning pedigree and seem to lack front office gravitas.

    • Jazznation says:

Well King James supposed King James will never win a title again no matter where he goes! He took his tail between his legs and ran after getting spanked by the spurs! Lebron is no King or else he would have won again but then again he is not as great as people think! He couldnt win in CLevend so he went to Miami to be surrounded by stars so he could win! Now back to cleveland no REAL stars he will lose again!

  6. Paul says:

I find it very funny how most of the Miami Heat fans suddenly turn into Cleveland Cavaliers fans… but hey, LeBron looks like a good fella who even takes pay cuts to help the team win ( not like a ballhog we all know who plays for the Lakers), so I wish him and Cleveland all the best. The only thing I’m unhappy with is his flopping. Please. Stop. It. Thanks.

  7. lacrampa says:

Playing for the Cavs won’t win LeBron James a new ring, just a new retooling turn. He must join coach Pop and the gigantic big three composed of Tim Duncan the PF goat, Manu el man”gnifico” Ginobiliiiiiiii and the paint french kisser Tony Parker. We will trade the future hall of fame sharpshooter Austin Daye and the super athletic rim rocker Jeff Ayres for the near 30 old lebron and a cupcake

  8. heat says:

    Lebron is a sucka

    • jovan says:

he doesn’t suck he is good person he just dont want to do everthing on the team cazz bosh is not doin anything ,bpsh is laveing the team just cazz does not want to play the time he need .

  9. heat says:

you think some cupcakes can fix what you did….You left your hometown to rot…you came to miami 4 years got to the finals all 4 years…and won 2 rings !!!(could have been 3 but you chocked against the mavs) …Than you leave miami the city that got you these rings and your gonna go back “home” and expect to be fine just because you had out some cupcakes…your pathetic like your city

    • lazarocarballo says:

dude, miami didnt get him no rings, he got rings for miami dumb dumbity dumb dumb

    • Lebron is a traitor.he betrayed the Cavs then went to the Heat [which I am a fan of,just to make that clear.]Then he left the Heat!!!and went back to the Cavs the team he betrayed!!! Like who does that!Something that nobody remembers is that he promised to stay with the Heat 8 years.Remember the”not 1,not 2,not 3,not 4,not 5, not 6,and not 7 championships!and what he did, he made it to big of a deal. Then he had to write an essay of where he was gonna go.The thing is….WHO DOES ALL OF THIS!!! I am 11 and i noticed this. But he went to Cleveland because of his family, they liked in Ohio more. That is the only thing that I agree with Lebron right now is that!

      • The Truth says:

The way I see it is Bron goes where he can win. He left Cleveland because he could not win with that roster, now that they have retooled (aka lost a bunch and miracuously won the lottery many times) he can return. Bron has a better chance of winning with the new Cavs than with Miami this year. The Cavs are young and are only going to get better, while the Heat are aging and only going to get worse and have to rebuild, yep! start all over within a few years. Smart move by LeBron!!!

    • ADEL ZEKI says:

With out Lebran Miami will never have reached the MBA finals 4 times in a raw , and with out him Miami would not have win two MBA champions in 4 years, So you Miami Heat fans should be grateful for having him 4 years and win 2 titles in that short period.of time . He is the greatest basket ball player of all times . he is humble , down to earth he does not care about money as much as he cares about satisfying the wish of his fans by wining NBA titles

    • heat says:

      @ADEL

YOUR SAYIN HE COULD HAVE WON ANYWHERE ELSE I DOUBT IT. THERES A REASON HE CHOSE MIAMI, AND I REPEAT HE CHOSE MIAMI, AND THATS BECAUSE HE NEEDED OTHER STARS LIKE DWAYNE WADE (ACTUAL CHAMPION) TO GUIDE HIM AND TEACH HIM…AN ORGANIZATION THATS UPCOMING AND KNOWS HOW TO WIN…..WHY NOT GO PLAY WITH DWIGHT HOWARD, OR KOBE, LOVE,OR ANY OTHER TEAM THAT WAS BETTER THAN MIAMI THAT YEAR…WE WON HIM THOSE RINGS AND THOSE WILL BE THE LAST 2 HE WILL SEE…AND IM SURE THE HEAT WILL MAKE IT FARTHER THAN THE CAVS

  10. genuine30096 says:

I wish the best for Lebron James & his family. I’m sure the cities of Akron & Cleveland are ecstatic to have him back …. home. Like Wade said, home is where the heart is. Except unlike Wade, James really is “home”. I always say there is no place like home. Wonderful gesture by Lebron to his neighbors, by the way. Watch some find fault with that.

  11. GSW says:

LOL Andrew Wiggins is so happy :)

  12. Erikgarcia says:

How sweet LeBron. I wish I could have a neighbor like you :)

  13. Knuckz says:

That means that they were never Miami fans. They are Lebron fans. I am an original Heat fan and remain a loyal he fan. And for the record, Lebron cannot touch Kobe by the way…. People came to the Lakers. Kobe never left to be with them.

  14. Chris says:

How about some cupcakes for your former Miami neighbors and a thank you note?

  15. Gary says:

If Lebron consider himself a KING and the best player in the NBA, Why does he insist of having Kevin Love with him in Cleveland? Can he not do it alone???? Besides he is surrounded by 3 other number one drafts in the last 4 years. I hope the Media and the NBA stop calling him the King or the Best Player in the league.

    • Kesh says:

He’s the best in the league but nobody can do it alone. Plus, we can’t be sure how two of those other 3 #1 picks will play.

      • Daniel says:

I’m a Mavs fan. And I don’t say this in a derogatory manner, so please don’t take it as that. Dirk won a title without another superstar on the team. There could be an argument for Jason Kidd, and he no doubt is a HOF player but past his prime to be able to dominate a game with his skill set. But a true team effort worked perfect in 2011. Anyway, right now I’m a desperate Mavs fan, who is still holding on the 2011 Championship, which seems like a distant memory now…. : ( I sincerely hope LeBron stays with the Cavaliers, I really do. It would be great tor the people and help stimulate the economy for the city (my political view).

  16. Lance says:

LBJ commentor stfu lebron can join the lakers and learn a thing or two

  17. Kesh says:

This makes me really want a cupcake

  18. clip says:

    oh well. people forget easily

  19. Daniel says:

One last thing, I do believe LeBron can do it alone. I don’t know if he believes it though. Basketball, like a lot of sports, is an emotional game and him being back home in his comfort zone, will recharge his heart and determination.

  20. BoyMalas says:

got to love LeBron… so how many championship is it this time? did he count it like he did when he went to miami, and when they lost he just left hahaha…. cleveland should always think this, if they cant give a championship to LBJ he will leave again and look for a team with superstar rooster that will give him a ring…. spurs on the other hand had to live with the loss they have last season and came back to win, that is a true championship team and LBJ will never be like that

  21. KOBE says:

Nice one leberon wish you never left the CAVs As you said you need to earn it. In miami it feels like it was given to you by wade and bosh and allen.

  22. vincent says:

see? buying ppl is always an option

  23. Shally says:

Miami heat fans will not do what Cleveland fans did.. We respect his deciion and appreciate what he gave us for four years… Lebron was always a nice person and great sportsman..

  24. "smart NBA fan" says:

he returned to cleveland his home town and handed out some cupcakes. bgi deal? i dont see much happening here to argue over. Kobe Bryant is still the best basketball player on earth dont get it twisted for 1 second folks. he fights through pain injuries and other players who have no determination. only other guy like that is now retired chicago bulls and 50+ years old he wore #23 jersey. ;)

  25. Wade Era says:

Hes not loyal….He will never be like Michael Jordan……
    without Wade hes nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Idol Ko C Wade not LBJ says:

Agree!… Wade is a true champion…without LBJ he won the title last 2006…where is the dynasty james promised in Miami??? not 1,2,3,4,5,6,7…..waahahahaha..lol….fake…bt give credit..he helped miami win another 2 titles..make it 3 for Wade…..then he left…now Wade can do it again..

  27. Jackie says:

Lots of Love to LBJ!!!! n his family. However I must admit as a Heat fan I feel that he showed no love for us upon his departure. When he showed up here in Miami wounded and hurt we showed mad love for him. The Miami Heat Organization get there props for the transformation of Lebron James. He is a better because of the love and support that he was given. My heart was crushed, because I was waiting on something special said to those that supported him and loved him “The Miami Heat fans”. Its sad he treats us how they treated him.Its ok because we got to finals before without him and we will do it again. Lets Go Heat!!!

    • Jazznation says:

Heat are done they wont win another in the next 25 years and yes i know you will say netiher will the jazz! BUt atleast i can accept it :D

  28. Keine says:

Why would you apologize? You did nothing. You seek for a championship ring, that’s something your neighbors cannot give.

    • heat says:

FOR BEING A TRAITOR…IF HE LEAVES HIS HOMETOWN AND A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM WHAT CAN YOU TRUST FROM ” THE QUEEN”

  29. way to LBJ this your and you do what you fiill. Thats a man letting his fans know he is back home.

  30. Luther says:

Happy you came back. You are sure a good second role Model for my son first is me. I know you will win A Championship for Cavs.

  31. WALTER says:

HE DID HIS THING IN MIAMI AND GOT 2 RINGS. WE WILL SEE IF IT HOLDS TRUE WHAT HE SAYS ABOUT HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS. HE DOES HAVE THE OPTION TO OP OUT AT THE END OF THE SEASON. LETS SEE HOW LOYAL HE IS IF THEY HAVE A LOSING SEASON. LETS SEE WHERE THIS GOES

  32. Chris says:

We in Miami are grateful for the wonderful and exciting 4 years Lebron gave us. So proud to have had him and his very nice family live in our hometown. We loved and appreciate his hard work, athleticism, and generosity in helping to build community When he announced his decision to leave, we were shocked, but respected his decision. As Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz said, “there is no place like home, toto”. In Miami we did not burn jerseys and neither Pat Riley nor Mickey Arison fired off and posted angry letters. However, Its time to move on and cheer on our new Heat or whatever your team and interests lie. I’d like to point out that the Heat has won and will win more rings than the Cavs ever will. Afterall, we are already ahead by three – one of which without Lebron. There is so much going on in this town, the Dolphins, the ‘Canes, the Marlins, the Gators, the Seminoles and if that isnt enough, we are the envy of the world because of our diverse gastronomy, our sunshine as well as our beaches which we can enjoy all year. We are so over this issue. So long King James, thanks for the ride, it was nice while it lasted, wish you and yours well. ….Go Heat!

DERRICK ROSE AND THE BULLS WILL BE IN THE FINALS NEXT YEAR ALONG WITH HIM WINNING THE M.V.P TROPHY

  34. PENNYDREADHEAD says:

we dont need him in miami he to cocky

  35. Tru-king says:

Everybody needs somebody…u always need at minimum 3 star players to win proven fact for the last 10 nba champs…never has there been only 1 star solo-dolo tthat has won a championship…even the great Mj had pippen & if you add (rodman, luc, Kerr, Harper) their talent will equate to a 3rd star…so my point is

  36. Benjamin says:

Wish I was his neighbour. Don’t mind those cup cakes.
I’m not his biggest fan but the guy can play. Don’t hate!

  37. hmmm says:
