High school Kobe was as dominant as NBA Kobe

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — As a high school player at Lower Merion High School, Kobe Bryant was highly regarded enough to become a first-round draft pick straight out of high school. Once he got to the NBA, Kobe has always been about looking forward, not back.

But sometimes it’s fun to look back. In this video unearthed by LakersNation, we find Kobe Bryant as a high school junior, and he was just as dominant as he became in the NBA. In these highlights — which really are maximum ’90s, from the graphics to the music to the clothes — we see Kobe’s Lower Merion against Norristown. In this game, Kobe scored 18 in the fourth quarter to lead a come-from-behind win. He also showed off a similar array of celebrations as we’ve seen from him in recent years. And the really amazing thing is when Kobe speaks on camera after the highlights, as he sounds pretty much exactly the same as he sounds in interviews today.

VIDEO: High school Kobe

  1. shotgun says:

I love how he still has the same demeanor, facial gestures, lips licking and ferocity

  2. OG says:

    The Greatest ever

  3. :( says:

Not having the Man in the NBA crushes me……your the man Kobe

  4. lbj says:

Being dominant in high school, grade school, kinder garden or nursery won’t give Kobe Bryant a ring. He needs to be a dominant backup player to our “king” LeBron in Cleveland. We will trade Joe Harris, James Jones and future hall of famer Norris Cole via amnesty from Miami to Lakers!

    • John says:

You have it backwards James needs to come play backup for Kobe, he’ll learn a lot and that’s a pretty insulting trade to the Lakers, none of them could do what Kobe just did in the fourth quarter, not even LeBron. Your “king” is gonna be a huge disappointment buddy

    • LBJ, Kobe has 5 rings, still hoping to get one more. Only in your dreams would
u imagine him being a backup to Lebron in Cleveland. Plus Lebron is his own
man as the leader, and Kobe has been the face of the Lakers franchise for many
years. Kobe is the leader on his own team, the man. There was talk about
Lebron joining him in L.A. but personally, I’m glad it didn’t turn out that way.
Lebron going back to Cleveland is a great story.

    • jr says:

Hey moron he’s not on the heat anymore how stupid are get off the bandwagon already king this king that LeBron has no loyalty and can do anything with one other superstar n good role player he needs multiple superstars and a bunch of role players just to have another shot at a title how pathetic is that

    • NickTheQuick says:

      Ahahahahah I missed you man!

    • adonis says:

      he has 5 rings πŸ™‚

    • Thomas says:

How exactly will that bring Kobe to the Cavs LBJ? Lmfao

    • Kobe is the one says:

If you think James is the best you have no Bball IQ . Kobe is the one and only King of them all!!! NO question.End of story.

  5. bryzdm says:

    He doesn’t change at all

  6. LBJ, only in your dreams that Kobe would backup Lebron in Cleveland. Besides both players
are leading men for their own teams. Kobe has been the face for the Lakers for many many years.
There was talk that Lebron was possibly joining Kobe in L.A. but I’m glad that it didn’t
turn out that way. Lebron returning to Cleveland is a great story.

  7. Wally Lopez says:

Enough said.. KOBE is KOBE.. GOAT in his prime..

  8. Baloney james says:

No, it doesnt give Kobe one ring, it gives him 5 rings!! How many does the “court jester” Lebarney have? 2… one by mere luck by the way with Ray Allen saving his butt.

  9. El Stone says:

Damn that was some bad defense.

Hey opponent- would you like a wide open shot? Sure. OK, but you have to promise to leave me wide open next time down the court. OK.

  10. Kobe23 says:

    5 RINGS

  11. 210LakerFan says:

Really???Cause it gave him 5 rings so far. Last time I checked that 3 more then your “King James”.

  12. DAvenger says:

Ummm…Doesn’t Kobe already have a ring or two?

  13. Gilmafthin Gorongfel says:

Back up to your king???? Lol……he won 5 rings without recruiting superstars or looking for the easy way to the top…..he’s a true champion!!

    • Just Sayin' says:

and yet you conveniently forgot that he begged to be traded unless they get a star (Pau Gasol) to play with him

  14. Pinoymamba says:

Caught his first game as a 17 year old pro at the NBA Summer League Long Beach Pyramid 1996 he blew up at 35 points along with fellow rookie D Fish…even then the other rookies and veteran NBA players couldnt contain him.
Greatest Lakers player of all time in my book behind Magic.

  15. nba says:

anyone noticed the old school video game music playing? lol

  16. Kome the Black Dumba says:

A copycat back then, a copycat now. The interview he does right now include those *&$% and all. Guess who Kome copy that from?

MJ aka Money, the greatest of all time.

Goodbye, copycat. Are you going to threaten the Lakers to trade you again if they didn’t “GET” players?

  17. As always…..an MJ wannabe.

  18. James Lenzy says:

Kobe the mj stunt double will never measure up to lbj and ya can bring up rings if u want but kobe need to give three rings back to shaq screw the wack la fakers lbg is the goat even kobe thinks so

    • The Voice Of Reason says:

      Ok…Kobe can give back 3 rings…
LBJ can give one of his rings to Ray Allen, which leaves Kobe with 2 and Lebron with 1…

I agree that Kobe is MJ’s stunt double, very creative actually.

  19. overated kobe says:

Hell neva be better than king james even with more rings they still got the same amount of finals mvps

  20. mj the goat says:

Kobe is not mj just mjs mini me, and lebron is better than kobe in my book

  21. Aldan says:

    that Italian accent aha πŸ™‚

  22. shan says:

  23. Jaytray says:

He has been balling hard core for a long time
How many NBA players at the 2 spot have kept their skills as long as he has?
