Pau Gasol screams a lot

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — For many years, Bulls forward Carlos Boozer was known for his willingness to yell “AND ONE” pretty much any time he shot the ball near the basket, whether or not a foul actually occurred. Boozer may be gone to Los Angeles, but he’s been replaced by Pau Gasol, who, it turns out, has his own vocal theatrics. Check out this video from Bulls fan Dylan Connolly, who cut together Gasol screaming from a few games. AHHHH!

pau’s awesome. i loved how all those clips are low post moves. low post player extraordinaire! bulls needed that!

    • LOL says:

Nah Pau seems like a good dude overall, but comeon man that constant yelling is LAME. I’ve noticed it for YEARS before with Lakers he does it basically every single play whether hes even close to getting fouled or not, and its just to try to always draw a foul. Its lame.

      • Jared says:

It is not just a way to get fouls, yelling can help give you a burst of strength. its a good offensive tactic, people love to see that the players is doing everything they can to score. why do you think tennis players scream every time they hit the ball. i admit it can help get you fouls, but yelling is no where near as annoying as seeing players throw their head back and flop on the floor.

      • yankabilly says:

It can also momentarily take an opponents focus off of the game…. milliseconds count!

  2. bullkid27 says:

a growling bull- he’s a true bull! the Chicago Bulls are heading to the 2015 NBA finals…

  3. None of the above says:

It’s great to see Pau’s low post skills as there is a bit of a lack of such skills in the league right now.

  4. Balldon'tlie says:

Pau is the best big man in the league this season. He is the beast of the east. He should be all NBA first team. Go Bulls!

  5. Zeitgeist says:

he got this from spanish soccer players – they flop all the time for a tactical advantage. pau is just a smart player in a tough league.

  6. JohnC says:

Many elite and amateur sportmen practice that ‘shouting’: it helps to free tension in a moment of big effort such as jumping, throwing something (Olympics) or hitting a ball. Many tennis players like Nadal do it too for example. Can it be the reason why Pau Gasol does it?

  7. krajan_Paul_Fan says:

He may be yelling (and moaning a bit) but he does not look at REF ( at least not on this clip) begging for “and ONE”. he just runs toward his basket to play defense. p.s. his fellows playing in primera division are 200% worst. I thing he sort of does it like tennis players. Emphasizing his another one great move.

  8. Amused says:

Slow news day? Next time, let’s see an article about all those Bosh screams. That guy screams anytime he does anything even remotely positive…

  9. xchanism says:

Its a sort of exerting extra energy. like olympians shouting to gain momentum when lifting heavy or throwing things. Pau is great! period.

  10. Rhedz03 says:

Ermm, I like pau..He is one of the best low post player along with timmy…But yeah i dont actually know if he does that scream every possesion or everytime he attacks the basket…All i can say is that its somehow annoying after the 10th time…But all in all i repect paus game…Hope he stays and retires as a bull…It fits him…Pau matador Gasol.

  11. It’s going to be finish of mine day, except before end I am reading this
enormous paragraph to increase my experience.

  12. Mua says:

It seems he really gets excited near Zaza Pachulia….

  13. Steve says:

I got the yelling part down, still working on the basketball part.

  14. Jai says:

    Noah does the same. LMAO

  15. Jamal says:

    Lol that was funny

  16. OKC says:

I didn’t think it was funny for the first 15 seconds but by the end I was cracking up.

    • OKC says:

It’s even funnier the second time.

Can you explain what is a strong female behavior? Sounds u think that females can’t stand adversity. If a guy like Gasol who is constantly surrounded by opponents as strong as himself in a sport with a lot of physical contact where u can have nose broken, wrist broken, even knockouts and u are implying he is not tough enough!? By the way MMA sportsmen scream every time they hit or get hit are u saying they are over emotive? Well stereotypes and prejudice…I guess that they exist for some reason but be careful they can make u loose bad in a bar fight!

  17. Cube says:

    Boozer=0points
    Gasol=triple doubles!!!

  18. lornet says:

the guy who constantly scream in an intense situation show a lack of toughness combined to a strong female behavior against adversity. they probably don’t know how to fight, throw a punch, they surely cry a lot for nothing and are over emotive, are followers and not leaders, dominated and not dominant. don’t pick them for a bar fight.

    • abcd says:

U don’t pick people for a bar fight. They just happen.

  19. Antonio says:

    EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHH!!!!!!!!

  20. Pico says:

Dumb “psychological analysis”. Just releasing energy, like tennis players do when hitting a shot, or athletes when shooting the discus or the javelin…

  21. Max says:

He learned it from Joakim the Dream!!

  22. dotanamous says:

when at anytime you’re banging it up against 2 opposing forwards weighing near or around 200lbs and a center generally always over 200lbs, i guarantee you gotta be a bruiser to be successful in the post.

they may make it look easy but those are big men using all their power to defend against you.

What non post players don’t realize is that you’re forcing your way into the paint and position to score.
in order to accomplish that, you’re literally banging it up under the net

yah, i think i can understand why he’s “yelling”,
in martial arts we call it “Ki-Ap”.

if you don’t understand, you can try spending 36 minutes splitting logs or rolling 200lb tires..or playing in the post against giant professional basketball athletes getting paid millions to defend the post like their job depended on it.

  23. Manchild says:

Finishing your shot with scream is effective! It’s BONUS if u near by Refs.
    So Pau screams high level.

  24. Big Rod says:

I call it the “Verbal Flop” and they should start fining players that do it excessively. One because i believe it does increase the chance of getting the call and two because its annoying as all hell!

  25. Lockout says:

Pau doesn’t pretend at all. Indeed, he suffers many faults that aren’t punished, as he extends his arms so the rivals can’t hit the ball and have to hit him. That’s why he screams

  26. RevanX says:

Unlike Boozer though Gasol averages a double double and makes his team better. The fact lakers wanted to bench boozer so fast shows what a downgrade boozer is compared. Many players scream but yes i can see why you used these two as comparison.

  27. Thony says:

Well, Scientifically speaking, screaming, grunting and alike improves strength and performance,,, He could be going for that… Maybe we should ask Pau about that…

  28. NBAFAN says:

Lets face it even though he has great skills Pau is a soft player at least he got out of the bad habit of finishing on his butt, when he played with the lakers each time he made a move for the basket hit or miss he was always on his butt ??? very strange he took on screaming instead, but when the team really needs him he want to defer or disappear watch and see Bulls fans the finals are near Pau is no savior.

    • RevanX says:

He doesn’t need to be the savior because the bulls have the depth to cover a bad night by gasol. We have seen it even snell and butler have had much better season. That’s what is amazing about this team one falls another shows up. Notice as the bench has gotten more time the bulls have won 6 out of the last 7. starters just need more rest.

  29. beejday says:

Chewy’s trying to tell us something!

  30. Lindan says:

    He’s been yelling since Lakers

  31. Jason Chiu says:

    Remind me of Sharapova =D
