Warriors fan revises, relaunches familiar ‘We Believe’ slogan

VIDEO: The Warriors stun the Mavericks in the first round of the 2007 playoffs

Remember back in the 2006-07 season, when the Golden State Warriors squeaked into the playoffs as the No. 8 seed and took on the No. 1-seeded (and 67-win) Dallas Mavericks? It was perhaps the greatest first-round upset in NBA playoff history as the Warriors ousted the defending Western Confernce champion Mavs in six games.

In that series, Golden State built a 3-1 series edge thanks to a raucous home crowd at Oracle Arena. Back then, the team rallied behind a “We Believe” slogan that was started by a season-ticket holder and loyal fan, Paul Wong. Although that wasn’t the official slogan of those Warriors, that crew led by Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson and Jason Richardson came to be known as the “We Believe” Warriors to many.

As Golden State embarks on what it hopes will be a run to The Finals, Wong has updated that familiar slogan: “We Believe Championship”. Wong unveiled that phrase on placards — about 250 of them — during last night’s Blazers-Warriors game and is hoping it will catch on like the ’07 slogan did.

Jeff Faraudo of the Bay Area News Group has more on Wong’s new campaign. And, here’s an image of the new signs, too …

Baron Davis is the man. Davis in his prime was just as good of an athlete and dunker as Westbrook or Rose in his prime.

  2. SIM BHULLAR says:

Baron Davis was one of the best warriors to don the warriors uniform.

Yep,that’s true, however my man Steph and Klay are better. And I love the improved slogan, though they should emphasize a tad better, like WE ARE CHAMPIONS.There should be no “believe” in the slogan.

Baron Davis…… Kirilenko!. I will never forget the electricity in that arena during that game against the Jazz. You just knew something special was in the air.

For sure one of the top 3 arenas in the league

I remember watching that game as a Jazz fan. That dunk almost started a war with Russia. I remember that after he threw it down it was like the game stopped for a while while all the Warriors fans went crazy.
