Happy Birthday Chris Paul

NBA Media Day

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Welcome to an occasionally recurring feature here on All Ball, in which we celebrate the birthday of an NBA great by delving into the highlight vaults. And today we recognize the birthday of one of the greatest point guards in the NBA today, Chris Paul.

Paul’s Clippers play the Rockets tonight in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals, and while we’re not sure whether or not Paul will play, after suffering a pulled hamstring in Game 7 against the Spurs, we hope the Clips take a moment to recognize today being CP3’s 30th birthday.

Born in North Carolina, Paul made national headlines in high school when he scored 61 points in honor of his slain grandfather, who was 61 years old. Paul stayed close to home and went to Wake Forest University, where he followed in the footsteps of Tim Duncan.

Paul was the fourth overall pick of the 2005 NBA Draft, by the New Orleans Hornets, and was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers at the beginning of the 2011 season. In 10 NBA seasons, Paul is an 8-time All-Star and 4-time First Team All-NBA selection. He may be slight of stature — he is listed as 6-0, 175 pounds — but he’s a ferocious competitor, as we saw last week when he willed the Clippers to a win over the Spurs while basically playing on one leg.

To celebrate CP3’s big day, let’s go to the video…
