Rare footage of Michael Jordan dunking in high school

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — These days, everything is put on video and saved for future generations. But it wasn’t that long ago that some things weren’t saved, not even for posterity. MaxPreps turned up this video of Michael Jordan playing for Laney High School in Wilmington, N.C., back in the late ’70s. I don’t recall seeing much footage of Jordan from this far back, but it certainly looks similar to the MJ we would see later in the NBA…

Nice, Lang! Grew up watching “come fly with me” on VHS about Jordan. They use this exact solitary clip from his high school days. Keep churning out those podcast episodes–love the work you three Hang-Timers do!

  2. Trent says:

I wouldn’t exactly call it rare, it appeared in Come Fly With Me, the greatest selling sports documentary of all time.

  3. MackDaddy says:

    Of course this is rare!

Yeah it may have been a single clip in best selling videos, but how many ‘other’ high school Jordan clips are there? Very rare footage indeed, thanks for posting!

  4. Less says:

Trent… Nobody likes a troll. Keep it under the bridge buddy.

  5. Antonio Perez says:

i think there is something wrong with the year

i think is late 80’s and not 70’s

    correct me if i’m wrong

    jordan was born in 1963

so jordan was playing in high school when he was 7 years old

    lol

so now i’m sure is the late 80’s

  6. Antonio Perez says:

late 70 i think is correct

    that means that in 1979

    jordan was 16 years old

are there other “footage of Michael Jordan Dunking in High School”?

      if there aren’t any

then you can call it rare

  8. French Montana English Ohio says:

It’s definitely rare. It doesn’t matter how many people have seen Barack Obama. He’s a rare individual because there’s not another one like him. It doesn’t matter how many people have seen this Jordan high school footage. It’s rare because there’s not another one like it.

  9. Huevos says:

Does it matter?? Rare or not? Enjoy the cotdamn clip its Michael Mothereffin Jordan!!!!!

  10. Paksta says:

It may, or may not be apt, but I did laugh the ‘rare’ statement, since I grew up watching Come Fly With Me and Michael Jordan’s Playground over and over again; and that’s when it reached Australia. I’ve hardly ever heard anyone refer to Thriller as a ‘rare audio track’ just because it’s unique.

    • Paksta says:

Still happy with the share though) The clip brings back high school memories, so I guess that’s one thing I’ve got in common with MJ.

I can’t believe how many people have not seen “Come Fly With Me”. Y’all are acting like this was just unearthed by a geologist or something

  14. tacomakid says:

isn’t this also in the intro highlight film to Spacejam?

    • The Voice of Reason says:

Haha! YES…finally someone else knows this footage. Not exactly a rare clip but one does have to stare in awe of how easy he just flies through the air…GOAT.

  15. John says:

Anybody who watched the Michael Jordan Come Fly with Me video from the early 1990s would have already seen this “rare footage.”

  16. M. J. says:

That dunk was a small preview of what was to come in the later years…

  17. Daniel Nunez says:

Definitely rare footage. Been an MJ fan since he was in NC, and this is one or the only high school footage. I’m glad you all are still talking about the greatest player ever! Keep up the good work.
