ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Welcome to an occasionally recurring feature here on All Ball, in which we celebrate the birthday of an NBA great by delving into the highlight vaults. And today we recognize the birthday of one of the great scorers in NBA history, George “Iceman” Gervin.

Gervin was born and raised in Detroit, and ended up playing college ball at Eastern Michigan University. His first professional experience was in the Eastern Basketball Association, where he was spotted by the American Basketball Association. After becoming an All-Star in the ABA, Gervin and the San Antonio Spurs joined the NBA. Gervin would eventually win four NBA scoring titles and become a nine-time NBA All-Star. He played his final NBA game in 1986, having scored 26,595 career points.

Iceman turns 64 years old today. Happy birthday, George!
