David Blatt might wake you up to watch the NBA

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — We’ve seen plenty of local ads on the All Ball blog, but this may be the first international local ad. Here’s an NBA commercial from Israel, where, because of the time difference, NBA games air in the middle of the night. But if you want to watch, say the Cleveland Cavaliers and coach David Blatt, who spent years coaching in Israel before taking over the Cavs, perhaps Blatt himself will swing by and wake you up to watch some games.

The new San Antonio Spurs HEB commercials are here

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — It’s a tradition unlike any other: With the start of a new NBA season comes the release of several new commercials for HEB, the San Antonio-based grocery chain, starring various members of the San Antonio Spurs. This newest batch of commercials doesn’t disappoint, as new Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge joins Spurs stalwarts Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, Patty Mills and mascot The Coyote.

DeMarcus Cousins’ cousins love pranks

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Earlier this week we saw a local ad from Oklahoma City, where a couple of Thunder players played a dating game. And now here’s another local ad, this time from Sacramento, where DeMarcus Cousins shows how some of his “cousins” love pulling pranks…

The Oklahoma City Thunder are selling cars again

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — I haven’t been to Oklahoma City in over a year, but thanks to some of the Thunder’s reserves, I can’t stop hearing about a local car dealership. We’ve seen Edmond Hyundai’s funny advertisements in the past, and this year’s latest ad, starring Nick Collison, Andre Roberson and the beautiful singing voice of Mitch McGary, doesn’t disappoint…

Timofey Mozgov continues making awesome local ads

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Cavaliers center Timofey Mozgov is no stranger to local advertisements, as he made a splash (at least in social media) last year with a spot for Cleveland eatery.

But what about when Mozgov wants to get out and be active? When he wants awesome, when he wants healthy, when he wants fun? Well, that’s when Mozgov visits Sky Zone, of course.

Because if Timofey Mozgov can dive into the foam pit, then surely I can, too.

Timofey Mozgov has found a home away from home

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Since being traded from the Denver Nuggets, Timofey Mozgov has only been in Cleveland for a few weeks. The good news, though, is that Mozgov appears to have found a home away from home in The Land, at a local establishment called The Brew Garden. In this local ad for the Brew Garden — and you know we love local ads here at the All Ball blog — Mozgov literally wipes out a competitor and delivers a stern tribute for the restaurant…

Steven Adams has some banking tips for you

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Oklahoma City big man Steven Adams hails from New Zealand, where they speak English but have a collection of their own phrases and sayings. These are obscure enough that when Adams breaks them out in this new ad for an Oklahoma bank, we need subtitles to keep up with him. Adams seems kind of presidential in this spot, doesn’t he?

Pelicans offer ticket deals with “No Problem”

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The New Orleans Pelicans have an exciting young team, lead by All-Star starter Anthony Davis, who is just 21 years old. And to make sure the people of New Orleans keep coming out to see them play, the Pelicans have introduced a new ticket plan: For $24, you can get tickets to any three games. Heckuva deal, for sure.

What’s really interesting is how the Pelicans are promoting this deal. We love local ads here at All Ball, and the Pelicans have chosen to recreate an old local ad for this new local ad. According to a press release from the Pelicans…

The spot included Anderson as the lead role, re-creating Frank Trapani’s persona in the original television spot for his store, Frankie & Johnny’s Furniture. Trapani, who stood just 5’ tall compared to Anderson’s 6’10 frame, passed away in July of 2012. Pelicans center Omer Asik and guard Tyreke Evans also make appearances in the series of spots.

Davis, donning a Stetson-looking hat and holding a plastic Mardi Gras cigar, reprised “The Special Man” role originally performed by Lester Love, Sr., a salesman at Frankie & Johnny’s who passed away in 2001.

“It was a lot of fun recreating the ‘Special Man’ commercial and I hope the employees and owners of the store would enjoy us reprising their roles,” said Davis. “At first when I saw it, I thought it was funny, but didn’t really get it. Some of the Pelicans staff who are from here were explaining to us how popular it was and it was fun to see their reactions as we were filming. We hope the fans enjoy it – it was fun for us to do.”

Here’s the Pelicans ad, starring Ryan Anderson, Anthony Davis and Tyreke Evans

OKC Thunder players inhale helium, sell cars

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The players on the Oklahoma City Thunder are not only very good at basketball, they’re apparently great at selling cars. Last year we saw several of them doing their best to get you in a new vehicle, and this year’s version of the ad has a new wrinkle: Helium.

Now, officially, I strongly discourage you from sucking helium from a balloon, because it’s probably a bad idea or something, but it’s pretty funny to hear these guys talking like Smurfs…

Bradley Beal in local car dealership ad

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Continuing our search for great local ads starring NBA players, here’s a clip from a Washington D.C.-area car dealership starring injured Wizards guard Bradley Beal. He’s not exactly singing — he’s lipsyncing. And he’s not exactly dancing either. But as far as local ads go, it has all the classic hallmarks.
