Allen Iverson Delivers Game Ball Before Game 6

by Micah Hart

With the Sixers a game away from elimination in their series against the Celtics, the franchise decided they could use a little inspiration. With that in mind, the team brought back Allen Iverson to deliver the game ball before tonight’s Game 6. Consider the crowd inspired:

Very few people receive near-unanimous approval in Philadelphia, but if ever an athlete fit the bill its AI — maybe Rocky. Whether his appearance propels the team to victory, we’ll just have to wait and see.

ICYMI: Amar’e Lacerated Hand

by Micah Hart

In case you missed seeing this earlier today, Amar’e Stoudemire tweeted out a picture of his hand, post-surgery and post-fire extinguisher bash:

My goodness. And this man may play basketball on Sunday?

Bosh Welcomes Son, Makes It To NYC In Time For Game 3

by  Micah Hart

If you were not aware, Chris Bosh nearly missed Game 3 Thursday night between the Heat and the Knicks due to the birth of his son earlier in the day.

But thanks to the wonders of modern travel and a veeeery understanding wife, Bosh arrived at Madison Square Garden just before tipoff, and showed little rust in adding nine points, 10 rebounds, and this block to the Heat’s dominant win, moving the team within a game of a series sweep of the hapless Knicks.

Via Hot Hot Hoops, here is Bosh with his brand-new son, Jackson, from early Thursday morning:

Congrats, CB1. Speaking as a father to a new son as well, the reflexes you’ve honed as a world-class athlete are going to come in handy at the changing table.

Knicks May Be Losing, But Linsanity Still Lives In Fruit Roll Up Form

by Micah Hart

So maybe this postseason isn’t for the Knicks. But hey, at least someone made Jeremy Lin a replica of his jersey made entirely out of Fruit Roll-Ups. That’s something, right?

From Lin’s Twitter feed, by way of Posting and Toasting:

Given the way this postseason is turning out, I have a feeling someone on the Knicks (A’mare, cough) ends up eating the entire thing while sobbing uncontrollably.

Gregg Popovich Seems Pretty Unhappy About Winning Coach of the Year

by Micah Hart

What can you say about Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. I am sure amongst his friends he is a heckuva guy, but when it comes to basketball, he is one ornery son of a gun. Before tonight’s Game 2 of the Spurs-Jazz first-round playoff series, Popovich received his trophy for being named the NBA’s Coach of the Year, a ceremony he appeared to enjoy about as much as you would a documentary about feline AIDS:

Now, I know for a fact that Popovich has a sense of humor; maybe he is playing a little pre-game round of hot potato with his assistant coaches?

Lighten up Pops!

Glen Davis Gets A Little Extra Workout In During Game 3

by Micah Hart

With Dwight Howard on the shelf, the Magic have a lot riding on the broad shoulders of Glen “Big Baby” Davis. So far in the Magic-Pacers series he’s been up to the task, averaging 17 points and 11.5 rebounds in the first two games. He’s continuing to show his hustle tonight in Game 3, as evidenced by this nifty play midway through the second quarter:

Wade is playoff focused and Bibby bears witness

by Zettler Clay

So this is what people mean by playoff intensity?

I guess Dwyane Wade didn’t think just leaving the shoe on the court and running down court to exploit the 5-on-4 advantage was enough?
