Cavs, Jazz celebrate Australia Day

By Jeff Case

The NBA is truly an international league, as 100 players from around the world were on opening-night rosters this season. Eight players in the NBA — Cameron BairstowMatthew Dellavedova, Kyrie Irving, Aron Baynes, Andrew Bogut, Patty Mills, Joe Ingles and Dante Exum — hail from Austraila.

Yesterday was Australia Day, and as such, players from the Cavs and Jazz took it upon themselves to celebrate it.

The Cavs went all-in on Australia day with Dellavedova, having him teach teammates some Australian words …

… and had him address the crowd before the game.

Cleveland also had Austrailan pop singer Cody Simpson sing the Australian National Anthem last night, too.

(For comparison’s sake, here is Starters co-host Leigh Ellis belting out the Australian National Anthem, too)

And, lastly, the Jazz had Ingles and Exum wish their fellow Australians well on the holiday. You’ve gotta love how Ingles does his best to troll Exum throughout the whole segment …

POSTERIZED POLL Week of Nov. 24

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Like we always do at this time, let’s take a look at the best instances of people getting #POSTERIZED over the last week and, at the bottom of the post, you can place your vote for a winner. And don’t forget, if you see someone get posterized, tweet it with the hashtag #POSTERIZED so we don’t miss it!

This week the Posterized Poll is dedicated to the patron saint of POSTERIZING, the great Dikembe Mutombo. Tonight the Atlanta Hawks host the Boston Celtics (8:00 p.m. EST, TNT), and during a special ceremony the Hawks will retire Mutombo’s number 55 jersey. Mutombo had plenty of highlights during his time with the Hawks, as you can see in the video below.

Draymond Green brings NBA Championship trophy to College Gameday

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — When you win an NBA Championship, you get to spend some time with the NBA Championship trophy, a.k.a. the Larry O’Brien trophy. Last season, for instance, a couple of the Spurs took the trophy back to Australia. The last few weeks we’ve seen some members of the Golden State Warriors taking the Larry O’Brien trophy around, but Golden State’s Draymond Green showed up this weekend for ESPN’s College Gameday on campus at his alma mater, Michigan State. And he brought a pretty cool friend with him: The Larry O’Brien trophy…

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony pay tribute to Blake Griffin dunk victims

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, but there’s never a bad time to hear “Crossroads,” their 1995 hit song paying tribute to their departed friends and family.

In this case, however, Bone Thugs turned up on ESPN’s “SportsNation” to sing the song in tribute mostly to Spurs center Aron Baynes, who got got three times by Blake Griffin in Game 1 of their series.

I wonder if he has an Uncle Charles, y’all?

The Spurs made a music video

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — In retrospect, the ’80s were a strange time, when bands wore face paint and teased their hair and played aggressively dramatic pop songs. And who better to celebrate that era than a bunch of the San Antonio Spurs? Here’s a music video from Spuran Spuran, a Duran Duran tribute band composed of Matt Bonner, Patty Mills, Aron Baynes, the Spurs Coyote mascot, and Kawhi Leonard on drums, in a tribute to Tim and Eric with their song, “Spurs!”

Patty Mills and Aron Baynes videobomb live tv report with Larry O’Brien trophy

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The Miami Heat spent a large chunk of the Big Three era perfecting the videobomb during postgame interviews. Looks like the San Antonio Spurs have once again lifted things to another level.

Spurs players Patty Mills and Aron Baynes are in their native Australia with the Spurs’ championship Larry O’Brien trophy, on something of a world victory tour. While at an Australian Rules Football stadium, they happened upon a reporter doing a live shot, so they ran into the picture, trophy and all, and celebrated.

The reporter didn’t recognize them, and he shoves Mills and urges them to move on, which they do. The best part is later when the reporter realizes what just happened.

NBA Players Celebrate Halloween

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — NBA players are just like anyone else, and end up celebrating Halloween by dressing up in wacky costumes. Here’s a sampling of images they’ve shared of them in costume via various social media thus far…
