The Blake Show hits Cleveland, comes up short

by Micah Hart

The Cavaliers snapped their NBA-record 26-game losing streak last night, beating the Clippers 126-119 in Cleveland. That’s a bit of an embarrassing loss for LAC, but hard to put any of the blame for it on Bad Blake, who had 32 and 13 in defeat.

Once again, it wasn’t just dunks for Griffin, as he twice beat the buzzer in the first half:

Shake it off, BG — you’ll get ‘em next time.

Last night in a … sad trombone

by Micah Hart

This is usually Kevin’s territory, but with the Cavaliers breaking the NBA record for futility last night with their 25th straight loss, it seems only fitting to play the infamous ditty in their honor:

Hang in there Cleveland – only 30 games left to go.

Last night in … a return

by Micah Hart

The Lakers beat the Celtics in the Finals last year to become the 2009-10 NBA champions. Most of you are probably aware of that fact, but there is a certain segment of the population that thinks the Lakers are fake titlists, and that had a certain someone not gotten hurt in Game 6, then the final results would have been different. I’m not going to tell you who this segment is, but it starts with a B, ends in an S, and has Oston Celtics fan in the middle.

That certain someone, a.k.a. Kendrick Perkins, made his return to the Celtics lineup last night after missing the first half of the season recovering from a torn ACL, chipping in seven points and six rebounds in a 112-95 win over the lowly Cavaliers.

With Perkins back, the Celtics are now whole again (though I am skeptical they’ll remain so through the rest of the season), and ready to prove to the basketball world that last season should have had a different ending — or so they claim. Whether that’s the case or not, we won’t know until the playoffs.

Cleveland Cavaliers giving Ted Williams a chance at a new future

by Micah Hart

By all accounts, 2010 was a tough year for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now that the calendar has flipped to 2011, it seems the organization is looking to improve their karma and start the new year on the right foot.

On Monday, a homeless man named Ted Williams was featured in the Columbus Dispatch. Williams was panhandling in the area with a unique sign saying he has the “god-given gift of a great radio voice.” Great radio voice indeed — check it out:

The video created an overnight internet sensation, and the Cleveland Cavaliers stepped up to the plate to offer Williams, who said his radio career was derailed by struggles with drugs and alcohol, free housing and work doing voiceovers for the team.

The Internet can be a cruel mistress at times, but it seems in this case it has used its powers for good and not for evil. Kudos to the Cavs organization for giving Williams another chance and hopefully a happy ending.

Superman imitates King James

by Micah Hart

After doing his best King of Pop impression after Orlando’s Christmas Day win over Boston, Dwight Howard gave us a taste of his LeBron James before the Magic’s game in Cleveland on Tuesday night.

Howard then completed the spot-on imitation after the game — he left (too soon?).
