Outgoing rookies have some advice for Ben Simmons

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — In just a couple of days, the NBA Draft will be held in Brooklyn, and Ben Simmons will be one of the first players selected. With that in mind, this new spot from Foot Locker features Simmons receiving advice from a few guys who just finished their rookie seasons — Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker and D’Angelo Russell. And the outgoing rookies are able to share some of the wisdom they picked up from their rookie years to help smooth the way for Simmons…

Also, in this spot, Simmons makes his own Foot Locker ad, with special guest “Karl-Anthony Towns”…

D’Angelo Russell hits crazy trick shot

ALL BALL NERVE CENTERD’Angelo Russell has spent the majority of his rookie season on the Lakers’ bench, watching the action and biding his time. Recently, however, he’s moved into the starting lineup and has posted a couple of terrific performances. And while he’s been impressive on the floor, I’m not sure he’s done anything as impressive as this shot he got up last night before playing the Magic…

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The 2015-16 NBA season tips off tonight, with the defending champion Warriors beginning their title defense against the Pelicans (TNT, 10:30 p.m. ET). And while we don’t know for certain who will win the championship this season — it’s why we play the games!! — the people at 2K Sports tried to figure it out.

Last year they had the Warriors winning the NBA Finals over the Cavaliers in six games, which is exactly what happened.

Using the powerful engine that drives the popular NBA 2K16 video game, according to 2K the Warriors will repeat as NBA champs, besting the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 7 game series.

Other things the 2K season simulation predicted: Oklahoma City winning the West in the regular season; Chicago and Miami finishing second and third in the East; Kevin Durant winning MVP; Anthony Davis winning Defensive Player of the Year; D’Angelo Russell winning Rookie of the Year.

Lakers bond over paintball

By Nick Margiasso IV

The preseason is for preparation, people. And, what, are you going to get your readiness up in the gym … on the court? Of course not. The paintball fields are where champions are made, bud.

New Lakers Roy Hibbert and D’Angelo Russell readied for battle to do just that, as evidenced by this post from this “Pro Paintball Champion”…

Whatever you do, guys, don’t shoot Kobe.

Kobe Bryant has a history lesson for D’Angelo Russell

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The Lakers drafted D’Angelo Russell with the second overall pick in the 2015 Draft, and the point guard from Ohio State now gets to play alongside the legendary Kobe Bryant. And while Kobe will no doubt be a big help on the court, Kobe’s using Twitter to show he can teach the rook a few things off the court as well.

After Russell tweeted that Tracy McGrady “might have been the GOAT,” a tweet he’s since deleted, Kobe responded via Twitter…

2015 NBA Summer League Marathon

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER
7:02 a.m. ET — Here we go again. It’s that time of year when the stars are aligned, when the moon is in its proper season, and when, for one glorious day, we get a full day of live NBA action. That’s right, it’s the day when the Orlando Summer League and Las Vegas Summer League overlap, when we get almost 17 consecutive hours of live NBA action. Like we’ve done a few times in the past, I’ll be here live-blogging along all day. Well, almost all day.

First up! We get the final games of the Orlando Summer League, and the day’s action will build to something of a crescendo tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET with what should be a great primetime match-up of 2015 lottery picks, as D’Angelo Russell and the Los Angeles Lakers will take on Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Just for the heck of it, after that game we get an NBA Finals rematch, as the Cavs’ and Warriors’ summer league teams will square off at 10:30 PM ET.

So settle in, get your popcorn ready (or your oatmeal or cereal or whatever appropriate breakfast foods you prefer) and let’s watch some basketball! I’ll be checking in throughout the day, up until tonight, when my shift ends at 5 p.m. and I’m replaced by some fresh fingers here on the live blog to carry you through the evening hours.

Leading off the morning, we have the Clippers against the Thunder at 8 a.m. ET on NBA TV, in is the battle for fifth place in Orlando. You have questions? Comments? Thoughts? Drop them in the comments below and let’s talk. Either way, we’ve got a marathon ahead of us. Let’s watch some NBA Summer League action. See ya again here in about an hour or so …

7:28 a.m. ET — So what should you be watching for when Summer League play gets rolling in Las Vegas tonight? We’re glad you asked …
