A night at the NBA Draft Lottery with Isaiah Thomas

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The NBA Draft Lottery was held last night here in New York City, and it was an event where people tried to have some sort of influence over something that is beyond influencing. And while several teams were represented on the dais by front office members or ownership, a few teams sent players to wear their colors. Devin Booker was there for Phoenix, for example, just as Willie Cauley-Stein repped for the Kings. The Celtics sent All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas, and Celtics.com put together an all-access look at Thomas’s evening…

Ben McLemore is Sacto’s new pizza guy

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — One of the joys of watching games via League Pass is seeing local commercials you might not otherwise come across. As such, it was fun last season watching Kings guard Isaiah Thomas star as the Pizza Guy.

But alas, Thomas left this summer and found a new home in Phoenix, meaning the coveted Pizza Guy slot in Sacramento was vacated. To fill it, the Pizza people looked no further than Ben McLemore, who apparently used to actually order the pizza.

And now he’s not just a customer, McLemore is the new pizza guy…

When Other People Wear Shaq’s Clothes

ALL BALL NERVE CENTERShaquille O’Neal is one of the largest human beings in the world, which means he wears some of the largest clothes in the world. So if you ever see some of Shaq’s clothes laying around, be sure to try them on and snap a photo, because it’s never not funny.

The most recent example of this comes from Sacramento, where Kings point guard Isaiah Thomas found a shirt belonging to Shaq — a Kings co-owner — laying around and tried it on.

Of course, this is just the most recent example of this phenomenon. Just a few weeks back, Shaq was a guest on the first week of Jimmy Fallon‘s new gig hosting the “Tonight Show.” And on that night, he let Fallon try on his jacket…

Going back a few more months, when Tracy McGrady was pulling a shift on NBA TV’s “GameTime” and he needed a suit, he thought he could pull off wearing one of Shaq’s suits that was sitting around the Turner studios…

And a few months before that, Reggie Miller was in the Turner studios and decided to give one of Shaq’s coats a try…

The Next Level Of The Alley-Oop

VIDEO: Check out out the best off-the-glass alley oops

It’s always been thought that if you can make those around you better, everyone wins. And there’s no better way to do that in the NBA than sharing the ball and putting your teammates in position to thrive. À la, the alley-oop.

What we’re starting to see lately in the NBA is an evolution of sorts of that all-to-familiar notion. Sure, Lob City  is always fun. But now that we’re into the new year, it’s all about pushing things forward. And this season, we’ve been bearing witness to some creative two-way hook-ups: backboard alley-oops.

Pistons tandem Brandon Jennings and Andre Drummond kicked things off early in the season with one of the showiest of Showtime plays you’ve probably ever seen on the L.A. hardwood. Not to be outdone, Isaiah Thomas and new Kings high-flyer Derrick Williams brought the Hollywood show to northern Cali with their own backboard rendition.

As they’ve shown before, this is nothing new for LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, who have taken a keen liking to the glass connection. They’ve pulled it off not once, but twice this season, with the second edition coming in front of a national audience on Christmas Day for all to see.

Is this the start of something big? Only time will tell. But at this point, there’s a new alley-oop sheriff in town and it’s being joined by its newest partner in crime, the backboard.

As always, make sure to check out the Dunk HQ, our rolling countdown of the season’s best jams!

Jamal Crawford Hits Game Winner At Pro-Am

ALL BALL NERVE CENTERJamal Crawford has a game that’s tailor-made for summer league ball. Between his microwave jumper and crazy dribbling skills, when JCrossover gets going, it can be tough for anyone to stick with him on the court. This weekend in Seattle, Jamal gathered a bunch of NBA players, both from the Seattle area (Isaiah Thomas, Tony Wroten) and not (Tyreke Evans), to play in a pro-am game, dubbed the #BRINGBASKETBALLBACKTOSEATTLE game.

Before we get to the final moment, though, first check out this clip of Tyreke putting a crossover on Seattle Mayor Michael McGinn, and then McGinn coming back with a nice no-look pass on the other end…

The end of the game came down to Jamal and Tyreke iso’ing as the clock ran down. With the game on the line, the ball ended up in Jamal’s hands in transition. Take a guess what happened next…
