Karl-Anthony Towns dunks on everyone

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Just when it appeared that basketball campers were finally getting their revenge on NBA players, as we saw at Russell Westbrook‘s camp, NBA players are coming back strong. First there was Victor Oladipo with his recent slam on a camper, and today we get video of Karl-Anthony Towns going one-on-everyone and dunking on all the campers…

Outgoing rookies have some advice for Ben Simmons

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — In just a couple of days, the NBA Draft will be held in Brooklyn, and Ben Simmons will be one of the first players selected. With that in mind, this new spot from Foot Locker features Simmons receiving advice from a few guys who just finished their rookie seasons — Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker and D’Angelo Russell. And the outgoing rookies are able to share some of the wisdom they picked up from their rookie years to help smooth the way for Simmons…

Also, in this spot, Simmons makes his own Foot Locker ad, with special guest “Karl-Anthony Towns”…

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The Minnesota Timberwolves didn’t make the playoffs, but center Karl-Anthony Towns is staying busy. Yesterday he spent some time with a non-profit called Wildlife in Need, a charity that presumably helps wildlife that is in need.

Take a ride in the Karl-Anthony Towns cab

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — NBA teams regularly come up with creative campaigns to promote their players for the NBA’s postseason awards. And to make a case for Karl-Anthony Towns as the NBA’s Rookie of the Year, the Minnesota Timberwolves have announced the KAT Cab. It’s a play on the former TV show Cash Cab, where unsuspecting passengers would hop in a New York City taxi and answer trivia questions for the chance to win money. In this case, cab passengers are asked about the Rookie of the Year race, with a whole website to support it. At least according to these questions, it seems like a lot of the answers point to Karl-Anthony Towns…

You better give Karl-Anthony Towns a high five

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — These days, when an NBA player makes a free throw, his teammates offer encouragement in the form of a high five. It’s pretty much a given at this point, so much so that when a guy sinks a free throw, the shooter is usually as aggressive in looking for the high fives as his teammates are in giving them to the free throw shooter.

Except this weekend, when Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns went to the free throw line and sank a shot, then looked to his teammates for the high fives…which just weren’t there. So Towns had to go on the offensive and make sure he got his high fives.

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Like we always do at this time, let’s take a look at the best instances of people getting #POSTERIZED over the last week and, at the bottom of the post, you can place your vote for a winner. And don’t forget, if you see someone get posterized, tweet it with the hashtag #POSTERIZED so we don’t miss it!

I missed last week’s #POSTERIZED poll because I was traveling, working on a cool piece for NBA TV (coming soon!). Which means more dunks than usual this week!

Let’s get to the dunks. Special shoutout to the previous winner, Sacramento’s Rajon Rondo!

Karl-Anthony Towns can defend even with a sneaker in his hand

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Minnesota rookie Karl-Anthony Towns is the early leader in Rookie of the Year conversation, showcasing a well-rounded game where he’s shown an ability to contribute on both ends of the court. And as well as he’s played offensively, Towns’ defense has been especially impactful early on. And he’s not only a great individual defender, but as we saw last night against the Spurs, Towns can even play defense with his teammate Andrew Wiggins‘ shoe in his hand…

Karl-Anthony Towns breaks out Shaq impression

VIDEO: Arena Link — Karl-Anthony Towns

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — For pretty much anyone in comedy, doing an impression of Shaquille O’Neal is no big deal — he’s been parodied by everyone from Kevin Hart to Frank Caliendo to Aries Spears to Jay Pharoah. But a basketball player doing an impression of Shaq? That’s a little more unexpected. So let’s give Minnesota rookie Karl-Anthony Towns some credit for breaking out a Shaq imitation last night on NBA TV. (And shoutout to Shaq for being ready to go right back at him.)

Minnesota Timberwolves read mean tweets

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Twitter can be a fun, immersive experience, but as almost anyone who uses social media has probably experienced, it can also hurt, sometimes. The Minnesota Timberwolves have embraced the pain by borrowing a bit from “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and having several of their players read aloud some of the not-so-nice things that were tweeted about them.

Karl-Anthony Towns has always been ready for stardom

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — If you’re a regular listener of the Hang Time Podcast, you’ve certainly heard me talk about how I was certain that Minnesota big man Karl-Anthony Towns was going to be a really good NBA player for a really long time. Because, as I’ve explained, from what I had seen, I knew his head was in the right place.

Why was I so sure? Let’s rewind back to February of 2012. I was, at the time, working as an editor at SLAM magazine, and one night I found myself in Philadelphia to see the Oklahoma City Thunder play the Philadelphia 76ers. During the game, a television producer I was familiar with approached me and asked if I had a free moment. I said sure, and he said he wanted to introduce me to an accomplished high school freshman from a nearby high school who was a SLAM reader, and who was at the game working on a piece for the MSG Network’s high school channel.

So I walked over and met this kid. His name was Karl-Anthony Towns. I sat and talked for a while with Towns and his father, who was just as nice and engaging, and I’ve never forgotten that moment. Karl-Anthony was a kid, and he was so composed and curious and mature, and I somehow innately knew right then that Towns was destined for big things.

And the segment Towns was working on? TNT dug it up and showed it last night, the time when Towns interviewed Kevin Durant. See what you think…
