Miami Heat mascot attempts to set long jump record

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — First of all, we should wish a happy birthday to Miami Heat mascot Burnie, who celebrated his birthday over the weekend. And to commemorate the occasion, Burnie had several other mascots over and tried to perform a flip over them. At least Burnie had a soft landing?

Pro golfer sinks chip from halfcourt

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — We’ve seen the occasional fan at an NBA game take the court during a break in play and make a halfcourt shot to win some cash, but how about knocking in a golf shot from midcourt? That’s what happened earlier this week in Miami, where pro golfer Matt Kuchar took a wedge to midcourt and chipped a plastic golf ball off the glass and in.

Even more impressive? He did it not once but twice, and generated some money for charity in the process…

Dwyane Wade lectures at Harvard

ALL BALL NERVE CENTERDwyane Wade may have played his college ball at Marquette, but that doesn’t mean he’s stopped his education. As he seeks to continue to build his Wade brand, Wade has connected with the business school at Harvard, where he recently showed up to talk to the students at the business school. Perhaps unsurprisingly, more than a few Heat fans showed up to hear him speak…

Miami Heat throw it back to the 1990s

By Jeff Case

Last night, the Miami Heat hosted the San Antonio Spurs in a TNT showdown on national TV. As such, the Heat decided this would be a “throwback” game and sported uniforms the team wore during the franchise’s 1990s era. But they didn’t stop there with the historical stuff.

They had a throwback “I Love This Game”-themed commercial, playing off the popular advertising campaign the NBA used in the 1990s …

… there was a throwback player introduction before the game …

… and perhaps the best part, they had the players do a 1990s-style infomercial featuring Amar’e StoudemireDwyane Wade, Tyler JohnsonGoran Dragic and Chris Andersen dancing to hits from Bobby Brown (“Every Little Step”), Kris Kross (“Jump”), Tom Jones (“It’s Not Usual”/The Carlton) Los Del Rio (“The Macarena”) and M.C. Hammer (“Can’t Touch This”).

Before we get to the NBA posters, let’s take a moment and give a shoutout to the NBA D-League, which is currently gathered in Santa Cruz, California, for their annual D-League Showcase. Jaron Johnson plays for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, and while he may not be in the NBA quite yet, I think we can all agree that his POSTERIZING skills are NBA worthy for sure…

Special shoutout to last week’s winner, Boston’s Marcus Smart, who narrowly defeated Utah’s Alec Burks in his attempt to get back-to-back POSTERIZED POLL wins.

OK, let’s get to the POSTERS…

A marriage forged by a love of Dwyane Wade

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The Miami Heat hosted the New Orleans Pelicans on Christmas day, but there was also a pretty special couple in attendance. Two fans of Dwyane Wade, named Yuancheng and Shurong, who met back in high school in China, thanks to a mutual appreciation for all things Dwyane Wade. They eventually went from dating to marriage, with an assist from Wade along the way, and they also went from China to Boston, to attend college. And for the Christmas game, the couple came down to Miami and were able to visit with Wade again…

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Welcome to an occasionally recurring feature here on All Ball, in which we celebrate the birthday of an NBA great by delving into the highlight vaults. And today we recognize the birthday of one of the greatest players in NBA history, LeBron James.

Born in Akron, Ohio, LeBron entered the NBA straight out of high school in 2003, and spent his first seven seasons with his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers. He then famously took his talents to South Beach, joining the Miami Heat and teaming with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade to make four consecutive visits to the NBA Finals, winning two titles. He returned home to the Cavs last summer, and helped the Cavs reach the NBA Finals last season, where they lost to the Golden State Warriors. He has won two NBA Finals MVP awards, been the NBA MVP four times, and been an 11-time All-Star.

LeBron turns 31 years old today. Happy birthday, Bron!

Special shoutout this week to Kristaps Porzingis, who may be a rookie but still had the presence of mind last night to duck out of the way of LeBron James to avoid getting #POSTERIZED. And even then he still ended up in the picture…

It’s the holiday season, so someone give a big present to last week’s winner, DeAndre Jordan!

Plenty of great entries this week. Let’s go to the posters, and don’t forget to vote for the winner…
