Robin Lopez takes out Clutch the Bear

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — For all the ways we have seen Robin Lopez tangle with mascots around the NBA, a tip of the hat to Houston’s Clutch the Bear, who waited until halftime the other night and then went after Lopez with a novel approach: Clutch sprayed him with a fire extinguisher.

You can guess how that turned out…

Robin Lopez takes mascot battle international

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — We’ve chronicled Robin Lopez‘s long-running war against NBA mascots. Now Lopez is taking his campaign beyond the borders of the United States, and making it an international battle. Last night, before the Knicks got a win in Toronto, the Raptor mascot innocently displayed a list of his favorite Lopezes. When Robin noticed he didn’t make the list, we saw a violent side of RoLo that was, frankly, scary to witness…

Brook Lopez nerds out over his Star Wars bobblehead

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — We’ve done plenty about of stories here about Knicks center Robin Lopez and his love for nerd culture. Well, his twin brother Brook may not be as outspoken about it, but turns out he’s just as nerdy. Check out this video from the Brooklyn Nets, where Brook is shown for the first time his upcoming Star Wars-themed bobblehead. Some of the things Brook talks about, off the cuff, include lightsaber colors, padawan braids, carrot sticks…it’s all really happening in this video…

Celebrate “Back To The Future Day” with Robin Lopez

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Today is October 21, 2015, a date also known as “Back To The Future Day.” Why? Because in the classic film Back To The Future 2, when Doc Brown and Marty McFly travel into the future, the date they program into the DeLorean is October 21, 2015. Today is that day, and while we may not have hoverboards or self-tying shoes, we can still celebrate one of the most fun movie series of all time.

And who better to reflect upon the momentous occasion with than Knicks center Robin Lopez, mascot hater and fan of all facets of nerd culture. Lopez recently dressed up as Doc Brown to hit up New York Comic Con, so Knicks.com sat with Lopez and quizzed him on Back To The Future, and even got him to showcase a pretty great Doc Brown impersonation.

So take us away, we don’t mind…

Robin Lopez went Back to the Future

This week in New York City was the New York Comic Con, an event where fans of comic books and popular culture gather in Gotham to get together and hang out. And as we’ve seen before, there may be no bigger (literally) fan of pop culture than Knicks center Robin Lopez. And this year, Lopez showed up in costume as Doc Brown from Back to the Future. Big idea: Lopez, who wears number 8, should switch and wear jersey number 88 — shoutout to the Flux Capacitor.

The Trail Blazers apparently don’t watch much “Portlandia”

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — “Portlandia” is a comedy set in Portland and filmed in Portland. So it’s no surprise that the Portland Trail Blazers have been featured on the show previously, several times.

But that doesn’t mean they watch the show regularly. In this video, several of the Trail Blazers play a little Name That Tune with the theme song of “Portlandia.” They all obviously know the show. The song? Well…

Angry Robin Lopez continues mascot attacks with renewed vigor

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The long-running battle between Robin Lopez and mascots around the NBA reached some sort of a breaking point last week, when the mascots, fed up with being beaten down by Robin Lopez, struck a stinging psychological blow. As we saw then, Cavs mascot Moondog attempted to drive a wedge within the Lopez family by befriending Robin’s brother Brook. When he saw the evidence, Robin reacted angrily on social media…

And it didn’t take Lopez long to start taking out his aggression on NBA mascots. A few days later, in Orlando, after light provocation from Stuff, the Magic mascot, Lopez hit him with a modified belly-to-belly suplex…

Then, in Memphis during pregame warmups, Grizzlies mascot Griz offered Lopez an olive branch…accompanied by a “KICK ME” sign on his back.

This battle clearly hasn’t reached its zenith. Let us hope for peace.

Mascots turn to psychological warfare in battle against Robin Lopez

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — We’ve dutifully chronicled the story of Portland’s Robin Lopez and his long-running hatred of mascots. These furry friends have tried their best to make nice, but Robin just keeps bringing the pain to mascots around the NBA.

The mascots have attempted to squash their beef with Robin Lopez, even organizing a staring contest, thus far with no luck.

So last night, Cleveland’s mascot, Moondog, struck a blow for mascots (and against Robin Lopez), perhaps driving a wedge between the Lopez twins by buddying up to Robin’s brother, Brook

If the mascots can’t get Robin on their side, perhaps they can at least cause a schism within the Lopez family and cause psychological trouble? A strategic masterstroke from the mascots? A one-time letdown from Brook?

We’ll keep following this story …

Robin Lopez takes mascot hating international

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — We’ve spent a lot of time chronicling Portland center Robin Lopez and his reign of violence against mascots. This weekend that battle went north of the border, as the Blazers took on the Toronto Raptors. During the game, the Raptors mascot strayed a little too close to a Portland huddle — and for some reason, Atlanta mascot Harry the Hawk was there, as well — and Robin Lopez decided it was time to strike. Sure, the Raptor may have been wearing a Lopez wig, but is that really cause for violence?

And as the cold-hearted Lopez noted via Twitter, “Two with one stone.”

Robin Lopez interrupts mascot birthday celebration

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — How do you celebrate a birthday? If you’re a mascot, like Sacramento Kings mascot Slamson, you invite a bunch of your mascot friends over to hang out for a game, and you all take turns entertaining the crowd.

Or, if you’re Portland Trail Blazers center (and noted mascot hater) Robin Lopez, you celebrate a mascot’s birthday with a few well-placed punches, elbows and body slams. We will continue to monitor Lopez’s reign of mascot terror…
