Pokemon Go comes to NBA and Summer League

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Pokemon Go is one of the hottest mobile games out there, as people are glued to their phones more than ever before. And while I’ve apparently missed the boat on this one — I never played/watched Pokemon growing up, so the nostalgia is lost on me — NBA players and teams are apparently just like the rest of us and love playing the game…

POSTERIZED POLL Week of Nov. 24

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Like we always do at this time, let’s take a look at the best instances of people getting #POSTERIZED over the last week and, at the bottom of the post, you can place your vote for a winner. And don’t forget, if you see someone get posterized, tweet it with the hashtag #POSTERIZED so we don’t miss it!

This week the Posterized Poll is dedicated to the patron saint of POSTERIZING, the great Dikembe Mutombo. Tonight the Atlanta Hawks host the Boston Celtics (8:00 p.m. EST, TNT), and during a special ceremony the Hawks will retire Mutombo’s number 55 jersey. Mutombo had plenty of highlights during his time with the Hawks, as you can see in the video below.

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — We’re ba-ack!

NBA training camps have convened, exhibition games are underway, and we all know what that means: The return of MUSCLEWATCH.

Before we get to the muscles, what, you may ask, is MUSCLEWATCH? Basically, it began decades ago when my friend Matt and I noticed our local paper would always report that players had gained 15 pounds of MUSCLE in the off-season. No matter the sport, it was never 12 pounds, never 16, never 9, never 18, but it always seemed to be “15 pounds of muscle.” So we began keeping an eye on the papers looking for references to the magic 15 pounds of MUSCLE. Eventually, MUSCLEWATCH became about more than just the “15 pounds of muscle” and more about guys who had either gained or lost a lot of weight. Previous winners include Thaddeus Young and Rudy Gay.

And remember, MUSCLEWATCH cannot be successful without your help. The most effective way to let us here at MUSCLEWATCH HQ know if you see any MUSCLEWATCH news is to tweet and use the hashtag #MUSCLEWATCH.

Also, for what it’s worth, we need numbers. If you’re going to be vague, that’s not MUSCLEWATCH. I’m talking to you, Bulls GM Gar Forman

Hey. we’re all glad Derrick Rose “looks terrific,” but if you want to play MUSCLEWATCH, we need actual digits.

Now, let’s get swole …

Andrew Bogut will not share a towel with you

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — In the heat of battle, basketball players are sometimes forced to share things that under normal circumstances perhaps wouldn’t be shared — water bottles, for instance. During last night’s Warriors/Jazz game, Golden State big man Andrew Bogut got tossed a towel that he used to wipe himself down. But when Utah’s Rudy Gobert tried to share Bogut’s towel, Bogut refused and took a stand, both for himself and for hygiene…

NBA Players Celebrate Halloween

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — NBA players are just like anyone else, and end up celebrating Halloween by dressing up in wacky costumes. Here’s a sampling of images they’ve shared of them in costume via various social media thus far…

Utah Jazz Rookies Get Hazed, Opt For Sparkle Nail Polish

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Rookies in the NBA are often assigned tasks designed to remind them of their rookie status. This is apparently already underway in Utah, if we are to believe social media. As rookie guard Ian Clark noted on Instagram, “Rookie hazing. Had to get our nails done.. With glitter smh lol.”

Rudy Gobert, the 7-foot-1 French rookie whose awesome nickname is apparently “The Stifle Tower,” Instagrammed a photo where he’s displaying his fingernails, which are painted a lovely sparkly magenta color, which was picked out by fellow big man Derrick Favors

Damn i feel bad lmao…. #rookietask

A post shared by Rudy Gobert (@rudygobert27) on

Meanwhile, Clark’s nails appear to be a more muted color, but they sparkle just as beautifully as Gobert’s with a color chosen by point guard John Lucas III

Watch the whole thing play out here.
