Phoenix Suns hold awesome post-practice dunk contest

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The Phoenix Suns have played an uptempo style of basketball the last few years, and one of the players who has perfectly fit their system has been Gerald Green. And while Green has developed into a nice all-around basketball player, his dunking ability has always drawn raves. Green has been in three NBA Slam Dunk contests, winning in 2007, and today after a Suns practice, he got into a dunk-off against Suns guard Archie Goodwin. Goodwin gave Green a run for his money, but Green seemed to show Goodwin who’s the boss…

Heat’s King James puts on very own dunk contest versus Bucks

By Nick Margiasso IV

This season, the Milwaukee Bucks on TV isn’t prime-time viewing unless you are hosting a Draft Lottery party. But when they play the Miami Heat, the chances of some worthwhile viewing get markedly better. Furthermore, when LeBron James decides to make it his own personal slam dunk contest, well, you can just toss the remote out the window and enjoy.

Dwight Howard Reminds Everyone He Won A Dunk Contest Too

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Last weekend in New Orleans, John Wall performed what was called the “Dunk of the Night” en route to walking away as the evening’s big winner. Even though it was only six years ago, the last time the dunk contest was in New Orleans was in 2008, and the winner of that dunk contest was Dwight Howard. These days Dwight’s dunks are more of the power variety, but yesterday at Rockets practice, Dwight showed that he can still get creative. James Harden got in on it as well, but Dwight threw down a couple of nasty dunks, including this first one which left teammate Chandler Parsons speechless…

Dwight's sick post-practice dunk leaves a shirtless Chandler speechless.

Today’s TBT topic: NBA TV’s Slam Dunk-A-Thon

By Jeff Case & Jonathan Hartzell, NBA.com

What’s better than watching a Slam Dunk Contest from the NBA’s archives? How about whole day of watching Slam Dunk Contests? That’s exactly what NBA TV has in store today starting at 10 a.m. ET and going until 5 p.m. ET, with more Dunk Contests airing again from 7 p.m. ET Thursday to 2 a.m ET on Friday.

You’ll see every Slam Dunk Contest in history (yes, even the first-ever one at the ABA All-Star Game in 1976 that featured Julius “Dr. J” Erving). It’s a great time to look back at an era when All-Stars like Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins and Clyde Drexler were regular participants in the event.

And, you can look forward to this year’s Sprite Slam Dunk contest, which features three All-Stars (Damian Lillard, Paul George and John Wall) for the first time since the 1988 edition (when Wilkins, Jordan and Drexler participated).

To celebrate the big day of TV watching on NBA TV, here are some of the most iconic Slam Dunk Contest images of all-time:
