Lakers have to revive Swaggy P after Jordan Clarkson dunk

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The Los Angeles Lakers have had their struggles this season, but so far in 2016, everything is going great. The Lakers are not only 2-0, but last night they managed to beat the Phoenix Suns by 20 points, winning 97-77. During the game, Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson got loose and made an entry for this week’s #POSTERIZED Poll, when that happens later this week.

It was such a huge dunk, that Nick Young, a.k.a. Swaggy P, had to be revived on the sideline…

Happy Birthday Nick Young

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Welcome to an occasionally recurring feature here on All Ball, in which we celebrate the birthday of an NBA great by delving into the highlight vaults. And today we recognize the birthday of one of the All Ball blog’s favorite players, Lakers guard Nick Young.

Born in Los Angeles, Young played three years of college basketball at Southern Cal before turning pro and being drafted by the Washington Wizards. After five seasons in Washington, and brief stops with the Clippers and Sixers, Young ended up back home in Los Angeles as a member of the Lakers. A 6-7 swingman, Young plays with a shoot-first attitude. His confidence on the court is matched only by his confidence off the court, where he enjoys the self-popularized nickname Swaggy P and represents the best of the West Coast. He was also once almost killed by a dolphin.

To celebrate Swaggy P’s big day, let’s check out some of Nick’s greatest hits…

Nick Young debuts new, swaggy haircut

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Yesterday the Lakers discovered that Nick Young, a.k.a. Swaggy P, has a small fracture of the kneecap, which will continue to keep him out of action for the time being. But even the article from Lakers.com explaining the injury can’t keep the swag down, as this story notes that Young’s new hairstyle, “was the talk of practice.”

What hairstyle?

It’s quite a look, and there were some, including Lakers coach Byron Scott, who weren’t as supportive of the haircut as others…

Haters gonna hate…

Kobe isn’t thrilled with the Lakers celebrations

ALL BALL NERVE CENTERKobe Bryant may be out for the season after shoulder surgery, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to go quietly.

But before we get to Kobe, let’s rewind to Sunday night, when the Lakers beat the Celtics in overtime, 118-111. The win was just the 14th of the season for the Lakers, and during Jeremy Lin‘s postgame interview, Jordan Hill and Nick Young showed up to blow off some steam, in funny fashion…

Back to Kobe. Last night, Bryant appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and Kimmel played Kobe the tape of Lin, Young and Hill. And let’s just say Kobe didn’t seem thrilled about it…

The Atlanta Hawks go showtime

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — On Sunday afternoon, the Atlanta Hawks hosted the Washington Wizards, in a game between the best teams in the NBA’s Southeast Division. Going in to the season, the Wizards were tabbed by many to win the division, but while their start has been slowed by an injury to Bradley Beal, the Hawks have surprisingly turned into one of the best teams in the NBA. I know, it’s shocking, but it’s real and the Hawks just keep on rolling — heading into yesterday they had won 21 of their last 23 games and lead the Eastern Conference with a 28-8 record.

So yesterday’s match between the Hawks and Wizards had some ramifications. But the Hawks took control from the start, weathered a run from the Wiz, and won it going away, 120-89. And it wasn’t just that the Hawks won, it was how they did it — the Hawks had a bunch of pretty cool highlight reel plays.

Let’s start with Kyle Korver, who is having an historic season shooting the ball. He leads the league in three-point percentage, shooting over 52-percent from beyond the arc. So when Korver has the ball, defenses pay attention. Which gives him the opportunity to do stuff like this…

And then there’s second-year point guard Dennis Schröder, who has had a breakout season. With the shot clock running down at the end of the game, Schröder took a three to beat the buzzer, and he pulled a Nick “Swaggy P” Young…although Schröder had better luck at it…

The Nick Young and Jeremy Lin Show

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Yesterday we checked in Lakers guard Nick Young, who despite enduring a miserable season has continued to keep us entertained. A few hours later, at a Lakers all-access event, Young teamed up with Lakers guard Jeremy Lin for a full-on comedy routine, with a cameo appearance from Wayne Ellington. Thankfully, ESPN’s Arash Markazi was there to chronicle the entire thing…

Swaggy P’s epic Christmas gift

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — With Christmas just days away, if you haven’t done your holiday shopping yet, you really better get on it. Because out in L.A., some Christmas shopping has already been completed…in pretty epic fashion.

Yesterday after a Lakers’ practice, Nick “Swaggy P” Young exited the Lakers’ practice facility to find a Christmas present waiting from his girlfriend, music superstar Iggy Azalea. That gift? a 1962 Chevy Impala, customized with a Corvette engine. What do you get for the guy who has everything? Iggy seems to have a pretty good handle on that…

What do you get @swaggyp1 for Christmas? @thenewclassic found him something pretty good.

Nick Young volunteers to coach the Lakers

By Lang Whitaker, NBA.com

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The Los Angeles Lakers need a new coach. Their swaggy shooting guard, Nick Young, who is always up to something interesting and could become a free agent this summer, could possibly need a new job.

So in some ways it makes perfect sense that Young would volunteer to coach the Lakers. After all, who is more Hollywood than Swaggy P? Let’s make this happen, Lake Show…
