USA Basketball cheers on Phelps, Ledecky

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — With a night off last night in Rio, what should the members of Team USA do? For a group of guys like Kevin Durant, DeMarcus Cousins, Draymond Green, DeAndre Jordan, Klay Thompson and Kyle Lowry, they took advantage of the downtime by attending one of the night’s biggest events, swimming, which featured a couple of the biggest stars of the Olympics, Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky. Not only did the USA Basketball guys have a chance to cheer Phelps and Ledecky on toward gold medals, they got to spend some time with them post-race, as well…

DeMarcus Cousins and Harrison Barnes show off soccer skills

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — With Team USA in their final days of preparation leading up the Olympics, the guys took some time yesterday in Chicago to meet some fellow world-class athletes, although from a different sport. (Maybe Dirk could have used some tips.) Check the tape below of DeMarcus Cousins and Harrison Barnes having a kick about with a few ballers from Bayern Munich, including Franck Ribery and Xabi Alonso. DMC is a really effective goalkeeper…

And at the end of the day, it looks like DMC has decided to stick with what he knows best…

DeMar DeRozan almost connects on 360 dunk

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — As far as slam dunks in international competition goes, the gold standard is from the 2000 Olympics, when Vince Carter jumped completely over Frederic Weis. But last night in Oakland, Team USA’s DeMar DeRozan attempted a dunk that nearly put him in the same pantheon.

With two minutes left in last night’s exhibition between Team USA and China, and Team USA sitting on a healthy 47-point lead, Draymond Green threw the ball ahead to DeRozan, who tried a 360-dunk over a defender. DeRozan nearly made it, and nearly made history.

USA Basketball unveils Men’s Olympic team

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The term “unveiled” is often employed to describe the introduction of something new, and at its definition, “unveiled” suggests literally taking the lid off of whatever it is that is being displayed. Yesterday in New York City, the U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball Team was, quite literally, unveiled at a community center in Harlem. A group of kids were gathered for an announcement, when suddenly a door was raised, revealing all the members of the U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball team…

After the announcement, a few kids were asked for their reactions. Clearly, and understandably, they were still pretty fired up about it…

Nike unveils USA Basketball 2016 Olympic uniforms

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — The 2016 Olympics in Rio are still a few months away, and while we don’t know exactly who will be on Team USA, we now know what Team USA will be in. Today in New York City, as part of their innovation summit, Nike introduced the uniforms for the men’s and women’s USA Basketball teams. Here are Kevin Durant and Elena Delle Donne modeling the new unis…

Check out every jersey Kobe Bryant has worn

17 Apr 1997: Guard Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers stands in a defensive position during a game against the Sacramento Kings at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California. The Lakers won the game 108-99.

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — Considering that Kobe Bryant has played his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers, and considering that the Lakers have had the same basic uniform design for decades, you might think that Kobe hasn’t worn that many different uniforms. But then, remember that he started out wearing number 8 before switching to 24, and that the Lakers have had several alternate uniforms and jersey tweaks. And Kobe’s also been an All-Star nearly twenty times, and played for a couple of USA Basketball teams…and when you do the math, Kobe has apparently worn 36 different jerseys in his professional career.

The folks at Lakers.com have done important work here and put together a cool mini-site featuring every jersey Kobe’s worn in his career. Pretty awesome site,ย and easy to get lost in there checking out all the different looks.

Russell Westbrook makes LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony crack up

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — So here’s the drill: Someone passes you the ball, and you catch it and then are allowed to have two dribbles before you must to shoot the ball. At least, that’s the drill they were running yesterday at USA Basketball practice yesterday. And when Russell Westbrook caught it in the post, took two dribbles and then for some reason decided not to shoot the ball, it sent LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony into hysterics.

You try guarding Stephen Curry

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — We already knew Stephen Curry could score from pretty much anywhere on the court — he is the MVP, after all — but in this compilation of clips from yesterday’s USA Basketball practice, Curry really shows his full compliment of scoring abilities. Hand in the face? No problem. I mean, how do you stop this?

Steph Curry wins shooting contest from bench

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — One of the reasons USA Basketball has people around with cameras filming everything is just in case a situation like the one below breaks out. At a Team USA practice in Barcelona, an impromptu shooting contest happened between Kenneth Faried, Stephen Curry and James Harden. That in and of itself isn’t all that rare. But in this case, their shooting station was the bench.

DeMarcus Cousins auditions to join Splash Brothers

ALL BALL NERVE CENTER — At practice yesterday for USA Basketball, Sacramento big man DeMarcus Cousins decided to show off his outside shooting range, while declaring himself a candidate to join Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson as members of the sweet-shooting Splash Brothers. Luckily, Curry was nearby to witness Cousins’ audition…

@boogiecousins… the third Splash Bro, @wardell30?
