North Carolina Tar Heels

Starters (all stats per 48 minutes):

Marvin Williams, Hawks: 16.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.6 blocks, 1.0 steals
Raymond Felton, Nuggets: 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 11.2 assists, 0.2 blocks, 2.2 steals
Tyler Hansbrough, Pacers: 24.4 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.5 blocks, 1.3 steals
Vince Carter, Suns: 23.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.4 blocks, 1.5 steals
Ty Lawson, Nuggets: 20.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 0.1 blocks, 2.0 steals

Missed the cut: Ed Davis, Raptors; Wayne Ellington, Timberwolves; Brendan Haywood, Mavericks; Antawn Jamison, Cavaliers (injured); Brandan Wright, Nets

Team synopsis: With Jamison hurt, Hansbrough rides his recent hot streak into the starting lineup for the Tar Heels, which is a good thing for UNC because this team lacks an inside presence otherwise. Lawson and Felton take turns at the point in Denver, but share the backcourt here. Vinsanity may not be the force of nature he once was, but North Carolina will still need him to be the go-to scorer on this team.

Investigative Report: The Awkward Handshake

by Kevin McCormack

The Kevin Love-Wesley Johnson handshake whiff from last week has already burned up the InterWebs, so kudos to the Timberwolves for addressing this mega-scandal head on:

NBA: A Love Story

by Micah Hart

What follows is a play, in three parts:

Act I

Wesley Johnson approaches Kevin Love for some dap, but is rebuked.

Act II

Kevin Love, having realized the folly of his ways, chases after Johnson to repair the torn fabric of their relationship. Johnson is resistant (can you blame him?), but Love won’t take no for an answer.

Love and Johnson put aside their differences, despite all they’ve been through, dap is given, and everyone lives happily ever after.

The ‘Cuse is in the house (Oh my god)

by Micah Hart

Last Friday, the Timberwolves played the Pistons in a preseason game in Syracuse, N.Y. That might seem like a strange place for those two teams to get together, but it worked out great for two Minnesota players, Syracuse alums Wesley Johnson and Jonny Flynn. While in the ‘Cuse, the former Orangemen took on a tour of the Carmelo Anthony Basketball Center, the year-old basketball facility named for the current Nuggets star who donated a cool $3 million to help build it. Roll tape:

It must be awesome to play in the NBA with a college teammate. There was a time when Chris Webber and Juwan Howard were both on the Wizards, and I kept hoping they’d somehow find a way to trade for Jalen Rose to reunite Michigan’s Fab Five (I assumed it wouldn’t be hard to get Jimmy King and Ray Jackson). Maybe if enough Miami players get injured
